Word came just before today's broadcast that guitar legend, Walter Becker, half of the famed group Steely Dan, had passed away due to complications from surgery. So the first segment is the Reverend's tribute to Walter. Afterwards, he returns to the original focus of today's program, celebrating Wonderful Weirdos Day on September 9th! The Rev discusses the origins of the word "Weird," why weird is something to celebrate, the benefits of being weird (as opposed to being "normal"), and his reflections on being a life-long weirdo.

Saturday, August 26th, is National Women's Equality Day, where we celebrate the victory of the women's suffage movement in the United States that resulted in the addition of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution and forever more guaranteed women's right to vote! We'll talk about the day, the sister movement that took place in England, the history of the U.S. movement, some lessons we can still take from the early 20th century victory, and close with some final words from the Reverend.

Saturday, April 22nd, is a day that's very special to us here at the Church of Classic Rock, as well as for SoR Radio, and radio enthusiasts and practitioners around the globe! The Reverend introduces you to the day, explores why radio is still a media force to be reckoned with in the 21st century, digs into a (brief) history of radio as a medium, talks about the role radio and music played in the counterculture movement of the 60s and early 70s, and shares some early, personal memories of radio and why he's still addicted to it, even after all these years!

July 2nd, 2017 - Independence Day

This year, Independence Day, the 4th of July, seems to have taken on new significance. The Reverend Jeff Smith talks about some of the traditions surrounding the 4th of July, how the Declaration of Independence came about, how to find hope in times of tyranny, and then reads, in its entirety, the full Declaration from 1776. And he ends with some personal reflections on how Independence Day has taken on a new significance in a "trumped-up" world.
